Blog Assingment 5

Classic- "of the first or highest quality, class, or rank".  http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/classic
I would define 'classic' as withstanding the test of time, lasting throughout generations, never fading away. I believe that classic stories must include the following.
  • high quality- if a book lasts through time then it must be written well and something that readers could always relate to.
  • Also, classics to me would be for example Alice In Wonderland, Cinderella, Peter Pan, etc. that the setting (century the story was written) could never truly be determined just by picking up the and reading it. These stories don't seem realistic which I believe engages the reader; lasting throughout time.

The book I am currently reading is "Movers & Fakers" and I strongly believe that it is not worthy to ever be a classic. What I have realized when thinking of books that I consider 'classics' is that they all of the settings that the stories take place in are not really places or could ever be a real place. Many of the books I have read take place in actual places like California or Washington and include things like cell phones and Ipods that wouldn't be in stories form the 1900's for from a hundred years from now. Overall, I believe that this story is not ever worthy of becoming a classic.

  1. Good blog post; well formatted, well planned, and opinionated. I don't necessarily agree with your rule about setting, though. I don't think it is possible for a book to not have a specific time period, because even the way people interacted back in the 1900s (the role of women, speech patterns and vocabulary, and family values) was very different then it is now, and all that would have to be shown. Maybe just the main theme would have to be timeless, so everyone can relate to it.

  2. Megan I thought your blog post was well written. I did however find a few spelling mistakes. Also I like how you realized that your book would never be a classic and how you gave reasons why it would never be a classic. In the future you should continue to use reasons like these to make great blog posts.
