"I volunteer!" I gasp. "I volunteer as tribute!" (Collins The Hunger Games 22). This quote directly states the crossing of the threshold, the acceptance of the call to adventure. Katniss has accepted her journey.

The protagonist, Sophie, lives in Toronto in a small condominium with her mother. The condo is very small for the two of them, but it works for now. Sophie attends Northern Heights Collegiate and is close friends with Madison, Kit and Sarah. To be exact, she has attended 8 different schools in the past 6 years! Sophie is a bright and honest 14 year old girl. The money is scarce in Sophie's home, relying on her mother's real estate business can be difficult. Sophie's father lives in prison in Kingston and Sophie has a very difficult time speaking with him, as does her mother. Sophie's friends are her mentors in the story but can be shapeshifters too. Her mother is the main mentor providing her with support and advice.
"I feel as if my mom is my rock. I feel safe and comforted when I am with her." (Toten,Me and the Blondes 46)

Blog Assignment 8
I am currently reading "Me and the Blondes" by Teresa Toten.
Question: Are 'The Blondes' truly good and honest friends to Sophie?
From what I have read so far they seem to be great friends. Meanwhile, by the way Sophie's mom talks about 'The Blondes" and how much she detests them, I have a feeling that shortly the blondes will back stab Sophie. It just seems that in every novel the friends (shapeshifters, I guess) seem to be so nice then turn evil; that is exactly what is happening (I think, from my predictions).
I chose this picture because it represents Sophie and 'The Blondes' relationship so far in this novel.
